Based on the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Hancock County in 2013 was 45,566. Hancock County has the eighth highest income per capita in the State of Mississippi.

On April 7th, 1798, the United States Congress created the Mississippi Territory which included all the land that presently composes the States of both Mississippi and Alabama.



Mississippi grew to bocome a State in December of 1817. The first action of the Mississippi legislature was to incorporate the City of Bay St. Louis to be the Capital of the State.
